Wat Phra Chetuphon (Wat Pho) This is the oldest and largest Wat (temple) in Bangkok, built in the 16th century during the Ayutthaya period and then almost completely rebuilt in 1781 by King Rama I. It features the beautiful Reclining Buddha and the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand. Wat Pho was also the earliest center for public education. |

Vimanmek Mansion This three-storey golden teak mansion was originally built in 1868 as a royal summer house in the island of Si Chang. It was moved to Dusit Palace in 1901 and later became King Rama V's favorite place, being used as the royal residence between 1902 and 1906. It was closed down in 1935 and remained in this state until Her Majesty Queen Sirikit re-opened it in 1982 as a museum to mark Bangkok's bicentennial celebration. |
