A Short Course on Introduction to Air Pollution Modeling

Organizers:
•  Thailand Air Pollution Center of Excellence (TAPCE), Pollution Control Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand
•  Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) - Thailand Chapter
•  Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE), King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thonburi, Bangkok, Thailand

Objectives:
Air pollution modeling has been known as a technical tool widely used for air pollution study and air quality management. Sharing and dissemination of knowledge and experiences in this area will help air quality workers, professionals, or students, who may not be familiar with air pollution modeling, develop a basic understanding of this useful tool and how it can be applied. Thus, the joint organizers plan to hold a Short Course on Introduction to Air Pollution Modeling as a pre-event and believe that such an activity will fit and enhance the coming BAQ2008 well.

Format/Theme:
1.  In-class lectures in English with some hands-on experience
2.  Free-of-charge registration
3.  Limited audience size (approx. 20 attendees per session)

Contents:

1st Session (morning): Basic Concepts of Air Dispersion Modeling with demonstrations on the applications (2 Thailand cases estimated, so far, Smoke Haze Dispersion Modeling: HYSPLIT, and Industrial Dispersion Modeling: CALPUFF)

2nd Session (afternoon): Basic Concepts of Receptor Air Modeling with demonstrations on the applications

Schedule:
11 November 2008

Venue:
