FROM THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTS MANAGEMENT TO THE MOBILITY MANAGEMENT- ILLUSTRATION WITH THE EU PROJECT CIVITAS- MOBILIS IN FRANCE
Abstract:
Since the beginning of 2005, Toulouse has started with the support of the European Commission the CIVITAS-MOBILIS project. The aim of this project is to demonstrate at a city level an innovative, sustainable and integrated policy for the urban mobility management.
The CIVITAS-MOBILIS project will end in the early 2009 and has permitted to the Toulouse institutions to foster the transition from the public transport management to the mobility management, in a sustainable perspective of developing alternatives to the private vehicles.
Concretely this project has partly permitted in the same time to: acquire a clean fleet of more than 500 buses; propose a more attractive PT offer with a better quality of service; develop new mobility services complementary to the PT; contribute to the increase of soft modes use; while continuously increasing the public awareness on the sustainable urban mobility.
