Developing a Viable Business Model for Access to Energy Projects
Abstract:
Off-grid energy sources such as solar lighting systems, micro-hydro and biomass are increasing in importance and use. Likewise, fuels such as LPG and biogas are being employed to replace traditional biomass and inefficient cooking stoves. Demand-driven, market-oriented approaches to providing modern energy services, often involving communities and local entrepreneurs, are increasingly replacing donor-driven approaches. Attracting private sector participation in access to energy projects requires projects to demonstrate a proven business case for development and expansion.
This presentation will draw on E+Co’s experience investing services and capital in small and growing clean energy businesses in 28 developing countries, and will highlight the factors that must be taken into consideration and the components that are essential for developing a viable and sustainable access to energy business model.
