The Examination of Exhaust Emission from Off-Road Engines

Abstract:

The present paper discusses the problem of toxic compound emission from engines of off-road vehicles. An analysis of legislation concerning the aforementioned problem has been included and shows that there are no legal regulations which would control emissions from the said engines. Additionally, the paper describes the characteristics of engine time density engines in the selected group of vehicles. Actual operating conditions, range of most frequent loads and crankshaft revolutions have been related to the operating points in the ISO 8178-C1 homologation test. On the basis of the analyses conclusions have been drawn and suggestions for modernization of the test have been formulated. Control tests of the toxic compound emissions from engines of machines in use have also been proposed. The most significant feature of the suggested testing methodology is the fact that that the tests can be done on an engine with a controlled load in non-laboratory conditions (field tests), which is important as far as the analysis of the emission of NOx and PM is concerned.
