SOME RESULTS OF GHG AND AIR POLLUTANTS MONITORING AND EMISSION INVENTORY IN MONGOLIA
Abstract:
National Agency for Meteorology and Hydrology /NAMHEM/ is responsible air quality monitoring in Mongolia. There is 22 air quality monitoring station /SO2 and NO2/. Since 1992 NOAA is started GHG sampling with Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology / under NAMHEM/ of Mongolia. The sampling point is located south desert of Mongolia. Main research of Environmental research section of institute of Meteorology and Hydrology is air quality such GHG data analyses and air quality. We have done GHG emission inventory between 1990-2002 used IPCC guideline and air pollutants emission inventory used methodology developed by prepared by the Stockholm Environment Institute [4] (Manual for preparation of emissions Inventories for Use in Modeling of Transboundary Air pollution). The emission estimates from energy consumption and production activities are based primarily on the latest statistical information from Statistical year book of Mongolia. The data of forest and grass fire areas were provided from satellite NOAA16 with resolution pixels 1 km by 1 km. With help of geographical information system the burned areas were estimated and expressed by km square. Our monitoring and inventory results are showing that last 10 years SO2 and NO2 concentration is increased 3 times in the capital city and GHG concentration is increased 7 per cents /20 ppm / last 15 years. Main section of emission of GHG and air pollutants is energy and transport.
