TOWARDS RELIABLE EMISSION FACTORS: DEVELOPMENT OF A LOCAL DRIVING CYCLE FOR MOTORCYCLE FOR HANOI
Abstract:
Motorcycle is truly the main source of the air pollution in Vietnam, especially in the capital, Hanoi. A latest report conducted by EMBARQ on exhaust emissions of transport sector in Hanoi showed that, of 20.488 tons of CO emitted by transport means in 2005, motorcycle source shares 79%. It is also mentioned in the report that, development of an emission factors data bank is crucial for better emission estimation.
This paper presents a method to develop a local real world driving cycle for motorcycles for Hanoi (HMDC driving cycle); following that, an instantaneous time-speed measurement device was designed and manufactured; a series of measured results obtained on specific roads were analyzed for traffic characteristics, which were then used for HMDC driving cycle development.
The emission factors of CO, HC, NOx and CO2, and fuel consumption of HMDC driving cycle and Europrean driving cycle for mortocycles (ECE R40) were created and compared at Lab. of Internal Combustion Engine, Hanoi University of Technology. Results indicated that the HMDC and ECE R40 driving cycles were completely different in emission factors and fuel consumption. In addition, due to bad traffic situation in Hanoi, the emission factors and fuel consumption of HMDC driving cycle are always higher than those of ECE R40 driving cycle.
