AIR POLLUTION CO-BENEFITS FROM PETROLEUM TO CNG CONVERSION IN MOTOR VEHICLES IN DHAKA
Abstract:
The Government of Bangladesh is actively pursuing the conversion of petroleum vehicles to CNG. This allows the government to reduce the pressure on foreign reserves in the country. Conversion of petroleum (petrol and diesel) vehicles to CNG, however, have other benefits related to local air pollution reduction. These primarily include the reduction in PM emissions, which can be linked with premature mortality through the impact-pathway approach. This paper aims to quantify such co-benefits in monetary values that can result through the conversion. A sensitivity analysis using different penetration scenarios are also carried out. The paper also reflects the major uncertainties associated with such an investigation.
